Business Expenses: When it Helps to Get Used Equipment

Every business owner wishes to save a couple of dollars by investing in worthwhile devices that come at a bargain. Some owners decide to go around the manufacturer and purchase straight from a certified online merchant where the prices tend to be cheaper and the product very similar in quality. Still, purchasing some materials, especially used ones, may not be in the company’s best interest. Some products were meant to be ordered used, while other computer materials, such as security networking items, should be gotten new to avoid any headaches cropping up down the road.

Server

You might be a huge company or a small start-up, and no matter the size, every company can never have enough hard drive space to pack all the essential information onto one computer. Purchasing one of these bad boys is a large blow to your bottom line, and aside from that, you have to get a number of different servers to accommodate all of your business needs, from hard drive space to speed. If you decide to spend on a used server, always make sure you purchase from a trusted vendor who has inspected the device to ensure its hard drive, CPU and RAM components are operating as they should.

Modules

In order to convey and receive data fast, servers rely on sophisticated items called modules; from basic GLC T devices to the more advanced products, modules are relied upon by both little and large companies to make sure information is broadcasted properly. Modules are great refurbished products to pick up, and purchasing these expensive items at half the cost could be worthwhile, but always be sure your investment comes with a warranty if you are ordering one from a dealer. Your warranty will come in handy in the future, especially when modules are used on a day-to-day basis, often for long spans of time, making the need for a guarantee worthwhile to have.

Security Networking Equipment

Say you buy used, Cisco brand SFP modules; chances are the dealer has checked these items to ensure they operate correctly. Unlike modules, purchasing the used security networking equipment is not in your best interest because the chance of a virus or worm infecting your system is very high. In the end, you could wind up paying more with that old, outdated item you ended up getting than if you had just bought new equipment. Don’t look to be cheap and save money on costly security software; just spend the additional money.
